COMBINED ARTFORM'S PICK OF THE FRINGE

June  1 through 25,  2017
Theatre Venues Throughout Los Angeles

I will be an independent judge for Combined Artform's Pick of the Fringe. As such, I attend a ton of Hollywood Fringe Festival productions across every genre, then offer input for the final selection of the weekly Pick of the Fringe, in which highlights from different top Hollywood Fringe shows are performed live. Many of the Pick of the Fringe choices go on to win major awards, including several Encore winners. If you come to a Pick of the Fringe performance, you’re going to see the best that the Hollywood Fringe Festival has to offer.

TOASTMASTERS DISTRICT 15 CONFERENCE

May 6, 2017, 10:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
Prospector Marriott, Park City, UT

The theme of the Toastmasters District 15 Spring Conference is Mine Your Story. As a bonafide storyteller and story editor, I will present twice on May 6, talking about the importance of getting your message across through story, whether it be in a speech, book, advertisement, or screenplay. People will pay attention when you tell them a story. As World Champion of Public Speaking Darren Lacroix has reminded us, “No child ever said, ‘Mommy, will you tell me a PowerPoint?'”

STORY SLAM

May 5, 2017, 7:30 p.m.
OP Rockwell’s on Main Street, Park City, UT

Presented by the Park City Toastmasters for the Toastmasters District 15 Spring Conference opening event, Story Slam is storytelling at its best. Ever been to a poetry slam? This is the same thing, except the stories don’t have to rhyme (although, they can, if the speaker so chooses). Toastmasters and speakers of all walks of life will get up onstage and share their stories. Join Toastmaster and improv comedian, Jesse Parent and me, as we cohost a night of scripted and impromptu talks, sure to entertain and delight. Not a speaker? No problem. This fun event is open to the public. Just show up and prepare to have a good time.

THE ULTIMATE WOMEN’S EXPO

April 29 and 30, 2017, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
L.A. Convention Center, Los Angeles, CA

Ready to get your book done? At this premier event for women, I’ll give my award-winning talk, Did Gandhi Have Carpool? in which I share how you (yes, YOU) can write AND published your book in 2017. Imagine how you’ll feel when you hold your first printed copy in your hands! I’ll also have a booth in the exhibition hall, at which I’m happy to chat with you about your writing project. And as an added bonus, the founder of Surrogate Press, Katie Mullaly, will also be on hand to share advice on what it takes to find a publisher for your book.

SELF-PUBLISH YOUR BOOK

April 12 and April 19, 2017, 6:30 – 9:00 p.m.
University of Utah, Salt Lake City, UT

Did you miss this class last semester? Here’s your chance to take it now. In this class I cover the steps necessary to take your book from manuscript to final book product, as well as how to distribute it to the world. I discuss the difference between self- and traditional publishing, benefits of self-publishing, costs, and how to self-publish on a budget. Along the way you’ll learn about ISBN assignment, copyrighting, formatting and cover design, print-on-demand, traditional printing, distribution, and marketing.
